I The Spanish Guitar Project |
José Miguel Moreno, Spanish guitarist extraordinaire, leads this project into the new millenium with 3 brand new recordings. Moreno's new CDs embrace, once again, the three most glorious centuries of Spain's musical past: the 16th century, with a recital of songs and solo pieces for vihuela and Renaissance guitar, featuring the excellent young soprano Nuria Rial, the 17th century, represented on this occasion by Gaspar Sanz's instrumental music, brought to life by the group Orphénica Lyra, and the 18th century, with the most "Spanish" of Boccherini's quintets as the basis for the first collaboration on disc between the two Moreno brothers, José Miguel and Emilio, founders of our label.

II Early Music |
Quite simply the best European early music, by the best performers, on the best instruments. The term "early music" should be understood here in its widest sense, and refers more to the actual performing mentality than to any chronological limit. Glossa is an artist's label: the decision to incorporate a new name in the catalogue is always carefully considered, but once the performer has been accepted by Glossa, he has almost complete freedom to record the repertoire with which he feels more in tune at any given moment. The result: sincere recordings, communicative and enduring. We pay special attention in our catalogue to Spanish music, for which we first made a name for ourselves internationally. Never before had the early Spanish repertoire been recorded with such attention to the sources and, in turn, such expressive power. x |

III Glossa Nouvelle Vision |
It takes time to fully savour a Glossa Nouvelle Vision disc. We've always believed that a really good disc isn't necessarily the one that satisfies the first time it is heard, but one that lasts longer. It is one that needs to be listened to carefully a number of times before, eventually, it joins the ranks of those uncommonly rare discs that we turn to time and time again. Discs that we may associate with thoughts, feelings and moods, with a particular period of our lives. In a market overwhelmed by short-lived new releases, with this series we intend to create intrinsically contemporary, but long-lasting discs. They represent our endeavour to find the disc for the future. A step towards refreshing the intellect. A channel for experimentation with genres. A struggle against labelling. And though it is, at first sight, a somewhat daring exercise we are discovering nonetheless how the consumer is often a step ahead of some «official» sectors of criticism and the immobility of the market in supporting a modest, but exciting initiative. x |

IV The Grand Tour |
This series is devoted exclusively to Frans Brüggen, living legend of early music, and his Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century. After a long and productive relationship with Philips, Brüggen has decided to work with an independent label, where personal interchange and craftmanship still prevail over factors of a commercial kind. In Glossa he has been given a warm welcome and the ground has been prepared for this already historical figure, and no less legendary orchestra, to record a truly personal legacy for this collection. The recordings of the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century are never made in the studio; they are live recordings, often captured in one take and in which postproduction is practically non-existent. These discs convey a human factor that is hard to find nowadays and which is also reflected in the accompanying notes which are mostly written and translated by members of the Orchestra. x |

V Le Concert Spirituel |
Hervé Niquet's founding of Le Concert Spirituel in 1987 brought back to life one of the most famous French musical institutions of the same name established originally during the reign of Louis XV. Under Niquet's direction the new Le Concert Spirituel has built up a sizeable discography which has received numerous distinctions from both the French and international music press. This collection features recordings by Le Concert Spirituel as well as introducing one of Hervé Niquet's lesser known facets: his work as an instrumentalist, both as a magnificent harpsichordist and organist. Niquet's solo recordings are presented in Glossa's luxury digipack design and those of Le Concert Spirituel, now recording exclusively for Glossa Music, bring with them a design innovation: a special place in the booklet is set aside to the work of an artist (a painter, illustrator, photographer) which in an indirect manner bears a relation to the composer or the pieces recorded. This idea is supplemented by the gift of a special print edition, produced on high-quality paper, featuring a selection of the artist's work.

VI Glossa Reprise |
It is hard to keep all the recordings available from a catalogue that already features more than 50 titles, especially in a market that is increasingly built around the display of a barrage of new releases and has no time (or shelf-space) for the systematic re-release of a back catalogue. However, we are committed to this task. We believe that the countless hours that go into making each Glossa disc cannot be trapped in a limited edition which sentences the disc to an out-of-print future once it has sold out. To avoid this happening we have designed a special mid-price series. Featuring impeccable packaging, an attractive price and the entire contents of the original issue, Glossa Reprise aims to serve as the perfect vehicle for the dynamic re-release of memorable recordings as well as widening our circle of friends. x |
